Was looking for Emacs magic to scroll the current line to the top of the window. The command help for C-l (control "L") mentioned it accepts a prefix arg to designate which line offset in the window to scroll the current line to. So:

M-0 C-l

...specifies to move the current line to offset 0 (top) in the window. Centering is just the default.
